My career as a professional photographer has taken me to many memorable events and locations; from photographing a rural property in East Cumbria during the Foot and Mouth crisis clad head to toe in attractive protective clothing, to shooting machinery in the depths of a sewerage works in West Cumbria. Every day is different.
What I really adore is portraiture. I love shooting in natural light; for me it’s the best and most natural way to capture people, especially when photographing children. I try to highlight their individual personality and characteristics within their natural environment. This allows for them to be themselves without the distractions and intimidation of a studio. I also specialise in informal family portraits shot at home or on location; from your favourite tree house to your kitchen table. I come along with my camera and capture your day to day family life.
As a Mum I know you can’t always make time for photographs when you’re all having fun together.
I have over ten years experience of wedding photography and I believe weddings are about surrounding yourself with the people who love you, and uniting two families. My aim is to document this family occasion discreetly; capturing the joy, the fun and the spontaneity of your wedding, as well as those emotional and comical moments.
I also take commercial commissions. My clients have ranged from Designer Goldsmiths and Hairdressers to Construction Companies and Architects. You could say I’m equally comfortable photographing teenagers in tiaras and men in hard hats, I’m very much a people person.
It is now over ten years since I became a professional photographer, and slightly longer that I gained my degree in photography. In 2006 I took a short break from my work to concentrate on a more demanding role, bringing up our two children Rosa and Peggy. I have loved spending so much time with my daughters but now, in the blink of an eye, they’re at school.
In my spare time I enjoy walking our dog Bonnie in the beautiful South Lakeland and North Lancashire countryside around Burton in Kendal, where I can indulge my passion for natural photography. When I put the camera down, I’ll be found pottering in our fabulous garden, tinkering in the greenhouse tying in the tomatoes and coaxing the cucumbers.
Regardless of what I am called upon to capture, my approach and principles are always the same, integrity, honesty and good fun.
